Adèle Exarchopoulos has signed on for a lead role opposite Zoë Kravitz in Apple’s untitled mystery movie from My Old Ass director Megan Park, sources tell Deadline. It marks the Palme d’Or-winning French actress’s first American studio lead role.
A Star-Studded Package
Park is directing the as-yet-untitled film from her own script, with the logline still under wraps. Apple Studios and LuckyChap are producing in association with FilmNation, with Tom Ackerley, Bronte Payne, and Kelly McRedmond overseeing the project. Reps for Apple declined to comment, and there’s no word yet on Exarchopoulos’ specific part.
“This will mark the decorated French actress’s first American studio lead role.”
A Career on the Rise
Exarchopoulos broke out with her lead turn opposite Léa Seydoux in Blue Is the Warmest Color, where she became the youngest-ever winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2013, sharing the honor with director Abdellatif Kechiche and Seydoux. The two-time César Award winner also voiced Ennui in Pixar’s Inside Out 2 and has French films Garance and Orange-Flavoured Wedding arriving this fall.
Why It Matters
Pairing a prestige indie director like Megan Park with two magnetic leads in Kravitz and Exarchopoulos is a recipe that’s getting Hollywood’s attention. With LuckyChap — Margot Robbie’s production company — behind it, the project has serious awards-season pedigree. It’s a major step for Exarchopoulos in the American market, and a mystery worth tracking as details finally start to come out.
